Devoli Establishes First 400G Trans-Tasman Network Circuit on Hawaiki Cable
23 Apr 2025
Devoli has become the first New Zealand-based telecommunications network provider to provision a dedicated 400G customer circuit across the Tasman on the Hawaiki cable, linking Sydney and Auckland.
This milestone follows Devoli’s recent upgrades to its New Zealand core network, enabling 400G capacity nationwide and now to Australia. The increased capacity reflects Devoli’s commitment to providing robust, scalable connectivity for medium and large businesses requiring high-performance trans-Tasman data solutions.
“As a specialist network and connectivity technology provider powering some of New Zealand’s largest broadband retailers and managed service providers, our network capacity is fundamental to our partners’ success,” says Ken Nicod, Director of Network Engineering at Devoli. “With video streaming, gaming, and cloud applications driving exponential growth in data demand, this 400G upgrade ensures our partners can continue to grow with full confidence in the resilience and scalability of the Devoli Network.”
Devoli’s investment significantly enhances its position in the region, offering exceptional bandwidth and performance for mission-critical connectivity across New Zealand and Australia.
Stefan Zaal of BW Digital, the parent company of the Hawaiki Cable, says: “Devoli has taken a bold step as the first independent network operator to activate a dedicated 400G service on the Sydney-Auckland route. They now hold the single largest trans-Tasman fibre capacity of any Hawaiki partner. We’ve worked with Devoli since 2019 and have been proud to support their ongoing expansion and innovation through their channel partners.”
